Science is now giving us some helpful facts about turmeric health benefits and recommended daily amount doses so that we can safely get these benefits.
Let me first list a couple of the turmeric health benefits.
From ancient times the central stalk of the turmeric plant has been scalded, dried and placed in the medicinal chests 홀덤 of traditional healers in India and China. It was recognized as a powerful anti-inflammatory and used to treat a range of ailments like indigestion, skin problems such as ringworm, jaundice and insect infestations.
From the 1970s, when Western researchers discovered the curcumin component of turmeric is the active one, proven turmeric health benefits have been increasing apace. Now it is acknowledged turmeric holds a surprisingly powerful store of antioxidants. Our bodies use these disease-fighting substances to clear out unstable oxygen molecules — the free radicals — which would damage cells and cause cancer and other diseases if left alone.
Studies of animals and one human trial published in the early 1990s showed turmeric could lower cholesterol levels, fight arteriosclerosis and thus prevent heart attack from that quarter, perhaps even block the progression of multiple sclerosis. It is also effective in taking out the pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and joint inflammation.
These are striking turmeric health benefits. But there is more, because it is suspected turmeric also helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease by minimizing inflammation.
So what’s the recommended daily amount of turmeric you can safely take?
For normal use, scientists recommend taking in your food 100 grams (that is 3.5 ounces) of turmeric which has been processed to contain 95 percent curcumin as this will give you 1.2 g per day (which is a therapeutic dose of curcumin). Alternatively they would say take two or three cups of turmeric tea a day. However they point out it is difficult to get an accurate measure of how much turmeric is released into boiling water.
If you suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome and indigestion problems you’d need more for pain relief — perhaps five times as much, three times a day. For cancer treatment a recommended daily amount is hard to determine — just take plenty of turmeric regularly, each day.
When the symptoms have gone, stop taking turmeric. It seems no turmeric health benefits come to you when you’re cured.
